D16 Group’s Decimort 2 is a premium bit-crusher and vintage sampler emulator capable of turning sterile, modern drums into punchy, textured, or completely transformed elements. Beyond just turning down the bit depth, its precise controls over filters, jitter, and resampling allow for advanced sound-design applications. Here are 5 creative ways to use Decimort 2 on your drums: 1. The “Crispy” Hi-Hat Transformation

Standard modern hi-hat samples can sometimes sound overly clean or thin. You can use Decimort 2 to add a highly sought-after old-school crunch that makes top-end percussion slice through the mix without sounding harsh.

How to do it: Place Decimort 2 directly on your hi-hat track. Lower the Resolution slightly to reduce the bits and introduce a metallic edge. For a classic, fast solution, try browsing presets like the 909 Cymbal Generator. If the top end gets too aggressive, bring up the Resolution slider slightly to clear up the transient detail while retaining the underlying texture. 2. Parallel “New York Style” Crushing

Running a bit-crusher directly on a full drum bus can completely destroy your low-end transients, causing kicks and snares to lose their punch. Utilizing a parallel chain allows you to blend extreme distortion underneath a clean, dynamic drum track.

How to do it: Create an auxiliary/send track in your DAW and instantiate Decimort 2 on it. Set the Mix knob to 100% wet. Push the Preamp knob hard to overdrive the input signal, lower the Resampling frequency down into the lo-fi territory (between 10 kHz and 16 kHz), and drop the bit depth down to 8 or 12 bits. Blend this destroyed, crunchy auxiliary track subtly underneath your main, untouched drum bus. This adds incredible body, presence, and perceived loudness. D16 Group Decimort 2 Overview and Use
